Indigenous Nurseries & Seed Banks

1. Indigenous Nurseries & Seed Banks
We restore biodiversity from the ground up.
Our nurseries grow thousands of fynbos species — many endangered or endemic — and supply seedlings to farmers, landscapers, municipalities, and schools.
Each nursery doubles as a training ground for young horticulturalists, ensuring that ecological restoration becomes a career path, not just a project.

Outcomes:
• 200,000 seedlings propagated annually per Hub
• 20+ youth trained each year
• Regional seed banks for resilience against fire and drought

Fire-Wise Fynbos Restoration

Fire is not destruction — it is renewal.
Our Fire-Wise Program integrates traditional ecological knowledge with modern fire science to restore the natural cycles that fynbos depends on.
We train local fire crews, manage prescribed burns, and replant post-fire landscapes to prevent erosion and invasive regrowth.

Outcomes:
• Fire corridor rehabilitation in 3 regions
• Reduced wildfire risk to communities
• Restored soil and species balance

Waterway & Soil Rehabilitation

Fynbos restoration begins where water flows. Our teams work along rivers, wetlands, and mountain slopes — removing invasives, stabilising soil, and planting native vegetation that filters and retains water naturally.
Each restored wetland becomes a living classroom for climate adaptation.

Outcomes:
• 10–20 km of waterways protected by 2035
• Enhanced groundwater recharge and biodiversity
• Community stewardship of catchment areas

Community-Owned

Bio-Economy

We believe regeneration must feed people as well as the soil.
Our bio-economy initiative trains and equips local cooperatives to harvest, process, and sell high-value fynbos products — from essential oils and herbal teas to soaps and natural skincare ingredients.
Revenue from these micro-enterprises flows directly back into restoration and employment.

Outcomes:
• 500 green livelihoods by 2035
• Local cooperatives owning 20–30% of product value chain
• Self-sustaining restoration through fair-trade economics

Cultural Knowledge & Heritage Protection

The wisdom of the fynbos lies not only in the plants but in the people who have known them for generations.
We collaborate with elders, healers, and storytellers to record, protect, and legally recognise indigenous plant knowledge — ensuring that communities benefit from its use in commerce and education.

Outcomes:
• Benefit-sharing agreements for key plant species
• Archival of oral histories and healing traditions
• Youth mentorship linking culture with ecology

Youth & Education Program

Our goal is to make ecological literacy a birthright.
Through school partnerships, field days, and mentorship programs, we help young people reconnect to nature — not as an idea, but as a way of life.

Outcomes:
• 10,000 learners engaged through workshops & tours by 2030
• Environmental curriculum in partnership with local schools
• Internship placements across nurseries, restoration sites, and tourism
